Uber Eats commission in Switzerland: the calculation per order

Unlike Just Eat, Uber Eats publishes its fees for restaurants in Switzerland on a pricing page of its own. It lists three models: 32 percent per order when couriers from Uber's network deliver, 15 percent when your own staff deliver, and 15 percent for pickup. On top comes a one-off activation fee of CHF 600. This article runs the three models with sample values and shows what to check in the contract.

The rates according to Uber Eats

As shown on the Swiss pricing page of Uber Eats, retrieved on 11 October 2026. Uber calls the rates a delivery fee there. What it means is the fee the restaurant pays Uber per order, not the delivery fee the guest pays. The model with Uber couriers is called Light on the English page.

Light, Uber couriers deliver32 %35 %
Plus, your own staff deliver15 %13 %

The right column applies to orders from Uber One members.

The activation fee is CHF 600, paid once. It includes a tablet, a printer, menu setup, professional photos, a window sticker, a welcome pack and a training call. If you opt out of individual items, Uber says the fee goes down.

The rates match what restaurants reported earlier. In 2019 GastroJournal cited about 30 percent per order. In 2021 several restaurants confirmed about 30 percent to 20 Minuten, and Uber named about 15 percent for restaurants with their own delivery.

Uber One: the more expensive share of orders

Uber One is the subscription for guests. It costs CHF 14.90 a month or CHF 149 a year, and members pay no delivery fee and no service fee (as of December 2023). For the restaurant, the Light model charges 35 instead of 32 percent on these orders. In the Plus model it is the other way round, the rate falls to 13 percent.

On a USD 50 order, a member's order in the Light model costs USD 1.50 more than a regular one. The larger the share of subscribers in your orders, the higher your average rate. So calculate with your actual mix, not with 32 percent.

The calculation per order

The table shows the three models with the same values. The rates come from the pricing page, every other figure is a sample value in US dollars. The logic is the same in francs. Own delivery is calculated with a driver at USD 38 an hour including on-costs, about four deliveries an hour, plus vehicle and idle time.

Light and Plus are 17 percentage points apart. On a USD 50 order that is USD 8.50 per order. That is the most your own delivery may cost for the Plus model to pay off. In the example it costs USD 11.00, so the Light model leaves USD 2.50 more.

As with Just Eat, order value and delivery density tip the calculation. At an order value of USD 80, 17 percentage points are already USD 13.60, and own delivery at USD 11.00 pays off. The gap is clearest for pickup: at the same rate as Plus there is no delivery at all, and every pickup instead of a delivery by Uber leaves USD 8.50 more in the example.

The activation fee is paid only once. At 300 orders in the first month that is CHF 2 per order, and nothing after that.

Uber Direct for orders through your own website

For guests who order from you directly, Uber offers a second route: Uber Direct. Uber couriers deliver orders from your own website, app or phone line, with no commission, from CHF 6.50 per delivery. Depending on distance, speed and integration it can be more. Because the price applies per delivery and not as a percentage, it gets relatively cheaper as baskets grow. The catch: Uber Direct brings no new guests, they have to know your website already.

Six points to check in the contract

  1. Model per location. Which model applies to which location and whether you can switch.
  2. Basis of the rate. Order value with or without VAT, before or after discounts.
  3. Share of Uber One. How many of your orders come from members and at what rate they are billed.
  4. Activation. Which items you need and how much lower the fee is without the rest.
  5. Promotions and ads. Who carries discounts, what sponsored placements cost and how they are billed.
  6. Term and notice. In 2021 Uber told 20 Minuten that ending the partnership was usually done within a month and without a penalty. Check what your contract says today.

Location by location, never the average

Which model pays off is a question per location, not per network. A location in the city centre with large orders and short distances is more likely to make own delivery work than one on the edge of town. The full calculation with promotions, ads and preparation time is in the article what is really left of an order. What Just Eat charges and how much of it is documented is shown in the article on Just Eat commission in Switzerland. In the Marketplace Audit we run this for each of your locations and each platform with your own contracts.
