Just Eat commission in Switzerland 2026: what restaurants really pay per order
Just Eat, called eat.ch until May 2021, says it connects about 7,000 businesses with 1.5 million active customers in Switzerland (as of May 2025). There is no public price list for restaurants, the commission is set in each contract. Ranges are documented all the same: about 11 to 18 percent of the order value when the restaurant delivers itself, and up to 30 percent when Just Eat delivers. This article shows where these numbers come from, what the commission covers and how to work out which delivery model leaves more per order.

What is documented
The numbers come from Swiss media reports in which restaurants disclosed their terms, and from statements by Just Eat itself. They are several years old. We found no newer figures up to October 2026, and Just Eat does not name its rates in its press releases.
The table shows the commission as a share of the order value: in the middle when you deliver yourself, on the right when Just Eat delivers.
| Source | You deliver | Just Eat |
|---|---|---|
| SRF News, May 2020 | 11 to 18 % | up to 30 % |
| Nau.ch citing Saldo, March 2021 | about 10 % | about 30 % |
| Beobachter, March 2021 | up to 13 % | almost a third |
The managing director at the time confirmed to SRF a commission in the low double digits. Two things stand out. First, the rate depends mostly on who delivers. Second, every figure restaurants have made public sits in a narrow band. For planning that means: calculate with your own contract and use the ranges only as a plausibility check. If your rate sits well above them, a conversation with Just Eat is worth having.
What the commission covers and what it does not
Just Eat, then still eat.ch, told Saldo in 2021 that the commission pays for marketing, advertising and running the platform. When Just Eat delivers, the courier is included. Just Eat works with employed couriers, and its head of Switzerland told watson in October 2026 that this makes its model more expensive than the competition.
The commission does not cover the costs that stay with you:
- Food cost and packaging. Often higher on delivery orders than in the dining room, because portions, sides and boxes add up.
- Promotions. Discounts and free delivery, as far as your contract assigns them to you.
- Ads on the platform. Sponsored placements cost extra if you book them.
- One-off and fixed costs. In 2020 restaurants told SRF about CHF 300 to 600 once and CHF 20 a month for tablet and printer.
- VAT. Check whether the rate applies to the order value with or without VAT and whether VAT is added on top of the commission itself.
There is also a pricing question. Just Eat advertises a price guarantee to guests. According to the Swiss consumer magazine K-Tipp, it refers to the prices a restaurant charges for its own delivery, not to the prices in the dining room (Blick, April 2024). Check your contract for whether your prices on Just Eat and in your own delivery have to match.
The calculation per order
Behind the commission sits almost always the same decision: does the restaurant deliver, or does Just Eat? The table shows both cases with the same values. The commission rates sit inside the documented ranges, every other figure is a sample value in US dollars. The logic is the same in francs. Own delivery is calculated with a driver at USD 38 an hour including on-costs, about four deliveries an hour, plus vehicle and idle time.
| USD per order | You deliver | Just Eat |
|---|---|---|
| Order value | 50.00 | 50.00 |
| Commission, 14 % and 30 % | 7.00 | 15.00 |
| Own delivery | 11.00 | 0.00 |
| Food cost, 30 % | 15.00 | 15.00 |
| Packaging | 2.50 | 2.50 |
| Left | 14.50 | 17.50 |
Left means what remains before preparation, promotions, ads and fixed costs.
On a USD 50 order, the gap between 14 and 30 percent commission is USD 8.00. That is the most your own delivery may cost per order for it to pay off. In the example it costs USD 11.00, so delivery by Just Eat leaves USD 3.00 more.
Two things tip the calculation. Order value: at USD 80 the same gap is USD 12.80, and own delivery at USD 11.00 pays off. And density: if a driver manages five instead of three deliveries an hour at peak time, the cost per delivery falls from about USD 14.20 to USD 9.10. That is why there is no general answer, only one per location. In a dense neighbourhood with high order values the restaurant delivers more cheaply itself, on the edge of town with small orders Just Eat usually does.
Six points to check in the contract
- Rate per delivery model. Own delivery, delivery by Just Eat and pickup, each rate in writing.
- Basis of the rate. Order value with or without VAT, before or after discounts.
- One-off and fixed costs. Activation fee, device rental and which of them still apply today.
- Pricing rules. Whether your prices on Just Eat and in your own delivery have to match.
- Promotions and ads. Who carries discounts, what sponsored placements cost and how they are billed.
- Term and notice. Notice period, form, and what happens to devices and data afterwards.
Location by location, never the average
A network with several locations rarely has one right delivery model. Order value, delivery density and kitchen capacity differ from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, and so does the answer. The full calculation with promotions, ads and preparation time is in the article what is really left of an order. How the fees look on the second large platform is shown in the article on Uber Eats commission in Switzerland. In the Marketplace Audit we run this for each of your locations and each platform with your own contracts.

Frequently asked questions
How much commission does Just Eat charge in Switzerland?
Documented figures are about 11 to 18 percent of the order value when the restaurant delivers itself, and up to 30 percent when Just Eat delivers. They come from reports in 2020 and 2021. Just Eat publishes no current price list, your contract is what counts.
Is eat.ch the same as Just Eat?
Yes. eat.ch has been called Just Eat since 19 May 2021 and belongs to the Just Eat Takeaway.com group.
Does own delivery pay off on Just Eat?
Only if it costs less per order than the gap between the two commission rates. At 14 and 30 percent and a USD 50 order that is USD 8.00. Whether a location gets below that depends on order value and delivery density, so the calculation belongs to each location separately.
What does it cost to join Just Eat?
In 2020 restaurants told SRF about a one-off fee between CHF 300 and 600 and CHF 20 a month for tablet and printer rental. Whether and at what level that applies today is in Just Eat's offer.
